Petit Versailles

Hidden behind a green curtain stands a castle that once shone as a promise of wealth and ambition.
A widow built here, in the heart of industrial prosperity, a castle as a monument of love and loss.
Built between 1854 and 1861, it grew into the “Little Versailles” – a monument of stucco, stairs, frescoes and refined details paid for from the golden age of the textile industry and erected as a tribute to a beloved who died young.
Now it is quiet. The windows are closed, life has departed – but the façade still speaks.
Today the grandeur is faded, but not vanished. On the façade four caryatids – the seasons, watch still as silent bearers of memory.
